Iridescentia 2017

 

A three-day literary fest Iridescentia 2017 was organized by the Department of English of MG College from Oct 17 to Oct 20 in the academic year 2017-2018.  The fest was inaugurated by Retired Professor Khairunnisa A. of All Saints’ College, Trivandrum. Her inaugural lecture, centered on the mechanics of creative writing, was attended by students and faculty of all departments. The second day of the event was characterized by intercollegiate quiz and spell bee competitions sponsored by El Phonics, Trivandrum along with various other departmental events like Love Letter Writing, Spot Photography, etc. The concluding day of the fest had the students showcase their thespian and artistic talents. The students of the department of English staged an adaptation of Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar, a dance adaptation of Kalidasa’s Ritusamhara and a skit titled “Shakespearean Women Live” which parodied social and cultural pretensions of the 21st century. The fest came to a close with the prizes being distributed on the afternoon of the third day by the college Principal, Dr. Sudarshanakumar.

Sixteen students of first year M.A. English Language and Literature of Mahatma Gandhi College, Trivandrum attended a lecture at Alliance Francaise de Trivandrum at Vazhuthacaud on November 3, 2017. They were escorted by Mr.Sambhu R. and Mr.Jeeva Krishnan, assistant professors, department of English. The class began at 9.45 a.m. As the session progressed the students began to get interested in the lecture as they got acquainted with basic French words and phrases. The session was very interactive. After a short tea break the students were shown some videos which gave them greater insights into French culture.
