World Mental health Day Celebrations 2015

 

World Mental Health Day celebrated. Department of Psychology celebrated the day with variety of thought provoking programs in the inspiring presence of Dr Hema Nair Principal, Dr Adithi the HOD and other faculty members. Sree Madhujan, the Director of Karunasai gave a talk for the psychology students on the topic understanding people and mental illnesses.He commented on the documentary movie by students of the department screened which handled the topic ‘Erasing stigma: A window to the inner mysteries of celebrities’. The students performed a skit ‘Jeevitha Thattu’ depicting issues in each stage of life ending up at old age where a person looks back to feel integrated or else desperate depending on his life activities as spoken by Eric Erickson.

The students also came up with an exhibition with models made by them of the nervous system and of depictions using installations called “The Cage’ to depict different kinds of mental jail a person is in like the Conceptual, Conditional and Conventional jails.Another installation called the ‘Arresting Time: Catacomb Chronicles’ – looked at man at the current age, addicted to technology; even his primary needs are not fulfilled with care. His movies, his vehicles and his time pace are depicted in the installation?.

The students also conducted a survey on the stigma towards the mentally ill among college students using the Bogardus Scale. A few psychological experiments were also part of the show.
