National Seminar – Botany Session
First Day 16/2/2018 Friday
After the general inauguration held at Auditorium, Biological session started around 12o Clock in the Botany Seminar Hall (Room number 55). About 58 participants registered for Botany Session. Students from this college and various colleges in the state were participated which includes M.Sc., M. Phil and Research students working in different Institutions and Universities. In addition to this teachers also registered in the seminar, teachers from this college and also from various colleges in the state. About 12 oral presentations and 6 poster presentations were evaluated on 16/2/2018. At 2.45 pm Dr. Radhamany, Syndicate member of Kerala University and former Head of the Department of Botany, University of Kerala delivered a lecture on ‘Future Trends in Biological Research’. After her lecture, the oral presentations continued.
Forenoon Technical session was chaired by Dr. Sushama Raj, Assistant Professor and Head of the Department of Botany, N.S.S. College, Karamana, Thiruvananthapuram. Afternoon session was chaired by Dr. Preetha, Assistant Professor, Department of Botany, University College, Thiruvananthapuram. Oral and Poster presentations were evaluated by Dr. K. Murugan, Principal, Arts College, Thiruvananthapuram.
Second day 17/2/2018 Saturday
Around 10.45 am, an invited talk was carried out by Dr. N. Senthil Kumar, Scientist E, Institute of Forest Genetics and Tree Breeding, Coimbatore, Tamilnadu on “Bio-prospecting, Scope, Challenges and Prospects”. In addition to the invited talk, about two oral presentations were also carried out. After the session the prize announced. Mr. Ragesh, R. Nair, Research Scholar, JNTBGRI, Palode got the first position in Oral Presentation and Ms. Rohini, B.R. Research Scholar, Department of Botany, Mahatma Gandhi College, Thiruvananthapuram got first position in Poster presentation.
Faculties in the Department were actively participated in the seminar, Dr. Santhoshkumar, R. Head of the Department acted as the member of Financial Committee, Dr. Praveen Kumar, B. R. acted as the member of Journal Committee, Dr. Sumitha, V. R. acted as a member of Reception Committee, Dr. Neethu S. Kumar acted as the member of Registration Committee, Dr. Rajesh Kumar T. acted as the member of Academic Committee and Dr. Sreeja Thankappan acted as the member of Reception Committee.
Ms. Parvathi, B.M. Research Scholar, Department of Botany, Mahatma Gandhi College anchored various sessions. Ms. Nisha, S.A., Ms. Chinthu P S, Ms. Chithra S G, Ms. Jisa John, Ms. Arya Prabha M, Ms. Parvathi, B.M., Ms. Rajeswary S, Ms. Vidhya A S, Ms. Rohini B R, Ms. Sreeja Devi P S and Ms. Arathy R. Research Scholars, Department of Botany, Mahatma Gandhi College, Thiruvananthapuram were actively participated in various sessions of the seminar. Teachers of the Botany Department delivered the Vote of thanks. Dr. Santhoshkumar, Dr. Praveen Kumar and Dr. Rajesh Kumar gave the vote of thanks in different sessions. Sessions were concluded around 4o clock. During the valedictory session held at the Seminar Hall of the College, Dr. Santhoshkumar, R., presented the report and feed back of the seminar.
