Report of Wetlands Day Celebration 2018, held at Mahatma Gandhi College, Thiruvananthapuram

First Day – 7/2/2018
First Day February 7th, 2017 around 10.30 the programme was started at Seminar Hall of Mahatma Gandhi College, Thiruvananthapuram. After prayer, Dr. Santhoshkumar, R. Head of the Department of Botany, and Convener of the Wetlands day Celebrations 2018, delivered welcome address and introduced invitees to the programme. After his welcome speech, the programme was inaugurated by Dr. M.R. Sudarsanakumar, Principal, Mahatma Gandhi College, Thiruvananthapuram. After inaugural session, Dr. V.M. Anandakumar, Council Secretary of the College and Dr. M.S. Anil Kumar, Convener, IQAC of the College felicitates the programme. A registration counter was functioned in the College for collecting the details of participants in the seminar. About 116 participants registered in the programme. Most of the participants were the students of the College. In addition to this Teachers and Office staffs of the College were also registered and participated in the programme.
After Tea Beak, Dr. Jaya, D.S. Associate Professor, Department of Environmental Science, University of Kerala has delivered a Lecture on “Wetlands in Kerala and its Importance”. After that Dr. Rajesh Kumar, T. delivered the Vote of Thanks to the participants in the programme. An organizing committee was constituted for the smooth functioning of the programme. In this Committee, Dr. M.R. Sudarsanakumar, Principal, Mahatma Gandhi College, Thiruvananthapuram act as the Chairman, Dr. Santhoshkumar, Head of the Department of Botany, Mahatma Gandhi College, Thiruvananthapuram acted as the Co-ordinator of the programme, Dr. Praveen Kumar, B.R., Assistant Professor Department of Botany, Mahatma Gandhi College, Thiruvananthapuram, Dr. Sumitha, V.R., Assistant Professor, Department of Botany, Mahatma Gandhi College, Thiruvananthapuram, Dr. Neethu, S. Kumar, Assistant Professor, Department of Botany, Mahatma Gandhi College, Thiruvananthapuram, Dr. Rajesh Kumar, T., Assistant Professor, Department of Botany, Mahatma Gandhi College, Thiruvananthapuram, Dr. Sreeja Thankappan, Assistant Professor, Department of Botany, Mahatma Gandhi College, Thiruvananthapuram, Dr. Divya, K.R., Assistant Professor, Department of Botany, Mahatma Gandhi College, Thiruvananthapuram and Dr. Harikumar, Assistant Professor Department of History, Mahatma Gandhi College, Thiruvananthapuram acted as the members of the organizing committee.
Second Day: 8th February, 2018
Inter Collegiate Quiz Competition and Tree planting was conducted on the following day of the programme such as 8th February, 2018. A number of Students registered for quiz competition, mainly they were from Medical College, Thiruvananthapuram, College of Engineering, Thiruvananthapuram, Barton Hill Government Engineering College, Thiruvananthapuram, Mahatma Gandhi College, Thiruvananthapuram, University College, Thiruvananthapuram, Mar Ivanios College, Thiruvananthapuram, N.S.S. College, Karamana, N.S.S. College, Nilamel, S.N. College, Kollam, K.S.M.D.B. College, Sasthamcotta, L.B.S. Engineering College, Poojappura and Christain College, Kattakkada. Dr. Harikumar, Quiz club convener of the college arranged all facilities for quiz competition. Sri. Aravind Anil, State Committee member, Quiz Society of India act as the Quiz master in the programme. After the elimination round, seven teams selected for the final round. After a series of questions, declared the final result of the quiz competition. Sreerakgh, M., and Abeeth, S., Team from College of Engineering, Thiruvananthapuram secured the first position followed by Gukul, M.S. and Albin Binoy, Team from Mar Ivanios College, Thiruvananthapuram secured the Second Prize and Surya Girish, student from Barton Hill Government Engineering College, Thiruvananthapuram got the third prize. After the programme, Cash prize distributed to the winners by Dr. Sudarsana Kumar, Principal, Mahatma Gandhi College, Thiruvananthapuram. In addition to this, tree planting conducted in the Campus
