Science Club activities

 

Science club celebrated National Science Day on 19tℎ   and 20tℎ   February 2020.   The celebrations was inaugurated by the Principal, Dr M S Anil Kumar by lighting the lamp. All the students of the science departments and faculty members of the science club participated in the inaugural function.   Science club of the college conducted a science exhibition on 19/02/2020 as part of National Science Day celebrations 2020.   All the science departments ( Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology and Psychology) participated in the science exhibition. There was a competition for the exhibition. Students of the science departments with much enthusiasm actively participated in the exhibition. Various models, equipments and charts were prepared by the students. The theme of the National Science Day celebrations was “Women in Science”. So it has been given importance in the exhibition.   The National Science Day celebrations has financial assistance from Kerala State Council for Science, Technology & Environment.   The competition was judged by three members each from Physics, Chemistry and Zoology Disciplines. They are the former faculties of this college. The members are Dr Rajendrababu, Dr Balachandran S and Mrs. Saroja Devi. The detailed criterion was given to the judges. All the judges appreciated the students for their outstanding work.   In the competition, Mathematics Department secured first position, Psychology second and Botany third position.

Being impressed by the exhibition by the students one of the judges, Dr Rajendrababu invited them to Vismayam 2020, a Science day celebration – ‘Technical-Fest ’20 on February 27 &   28   at   Heera   College   of   Engineering   and   Technology,   Panavoor   P.O,   Nedumamgad, Thiruvananthapuram. in association with Panavoor Grama Panchayat.     Three departments, Mathematics, Psychology & Physics participated in the programme. Students from various schools and colleges came to see the exhibition and in the concluding meeting, the college authorities specially mentioned about M G College’s participation.

An intercollegiate quiz competition was conducted on 20/02/2020. About 27 teams from nine colleges participated in the quiz competition. The quiz master was Dr Visakhan Thampi from the Department of Physics, Mahatma Gandhi college, Thiruvananthapuram.   Four teams were selected after the elimination round.   Two teams from M.G College, Thiruvananthapuram and one each from Government Women’s College, Thiruvananthapuram and St.Xavier’s College, Thumba were selected.   First two prizes was won by M.G.College, Thiruvananthapuram and third prize St.Xavier’s College, Thumba.

The students of the science club of the college was asked to do a project as part of CBCS program. There were 30 students in the science club and they were divided into six groups of five each to do the project. A power point project presentation competition was conducted for them.

Students actively participated in the competition and the presentations are all exemplary.   The Mathematics department came in the first position, Botany second and third position was shared by Chemistry and Zoology departments.
