World Mental Health day Observance 2020
The department of Psychology Mahatma Gandhi College and Naval unit NCC, Department of psychology alumni, in association with Sanjeevani Befriending Centre jointly organized a three day Programme on behalf of the World Mental Health Day.
A two day virtual detox camp, 1 day webinar and many creative competitions and games were organized on 8th, 9th and 10th of October 2020.
The first day started with a warm Yoga session lead by the head of the department Dr. Prathiba S Nair. The event was formally inaugurated by Dr M S Anilkumar, Principal of Mahatma Gandhi College. The sessions were taken by our Alumni.
The first session was taken by Mr.Abhiram M Vijay and Mr.Vishnu Venugopal. They did an innovative group activity based on Narrative analysis. It helped the students to understand their own perspectives towards Life.
The next session was conducted by Miss.Parvathy. She is pursuing Counseling Psychology. She did an Activity – Oriented session based on Art therapy.
The noon session was conducted by Miss Ardra Muraleedaran. She did a remarkable session on Mindfulness and detoxing the Clutters. It helped the students to get an insight of themselves.
The second day of the camp was comprised of Group activities. The Students were divided into 5 groups. Instructions and Guidelines were provided to each Group leader earlier. It was a Theme Centered Interaction handled by Mr.Matius Venghal, the President of Rehabilitation Council of India and Dr.Prathiba S Nair, the Head of the department. The chief guest of the day was Dr.Motti Thomas, Former HOD, department of chemistry St.Stephens College, Faculty, College of Leadership and HRD, Mangalore, Teaching faculty, RCI Germany.
The theme of the day was
” *MANAGING* *YOURSELF* *AND* *SUPPORTING* *OTHERS* *TO* *OVERCOME* *STRESS* ”
It was followed by 5 sub-themes. The participants were instructed to interact with their group members on the 5 sub-themes and present them by means of a Chart or a PowerPoint presentation. The performance of the groups were evaluated and necessary suggestions were given by the Coordinators and Cheif guest. The Chief guest falicitated the event with a thought provoking story followed by a quote,
“START WHERE YOU ARE, DO WHAT YOU WANT”
The session ended with a warm Meditation.
The third and final day of the session started Exceptionally with a bunch of Competitions and Fun games like Quiz, Photography contest, Puzzle story, Advertisement Analysis, Poster making and much more.
The noon session started with the Welcome address by the head of the department Dr.Prathiba S Nair. The keynote address was presented by Dr.Cheriyan Vargese, Coordinator in the management of Non – Communicable diseases, disability, Violence and Injury prevention. The session was quite Informative.
Then, the Official release of Annual Newsletter of Psychology department took place.
Nextly, Dr.Subha Satchidanand, Assistant professor of Psychology released a new book titled
” RESEARCH INNOVATIONS IN YOUNG MINDS”
edited by herself along with Dr.Aneesh V Appu, assistant Professor.
The event was falicitated by Dr.M S Anilkumar, Principal of Mahatma Gandhi College.
The next session was taken by Advocate Rajesh R Pillai, President of Befrienders India on the topic “ROLE OF BEFRIENDERS IN MENTAL HEALTH”. It was a very Inspiring session. Then we heard Remarkably from Advocate Nagesh Soodh, the Secretary of Befrienders India.
It was followed by a Presentation given by Dr.M D Ajithabai, the Deputy Director of Sanjeevani. She presented the Befriending activities of Sanjeevani.
Finally, the vote of thanks was delivered by Mr.Matiue Venghal, the Director of Sanjeevani Befrienders.
