Field Visit to National Institute of Speech and Hearing (NISH),Trivandrum
On 24th June 2025, Psychology Department of Mahatma Gandhi College organised a field visit to the National Institute of Speech and Hearing (NISH). The program began with an Indian Sign Language session followed by an interactive session with hearing-impaired students from the 2nd year B.Sc. Computer Science course, where basic sign language was practiced. An orientation session introduced NISH’s departments and courses, and various departments were visited, including the Early Intervention Program (EIP) classes for young hearing-impaired children. In the afternoon, the library equipped with assistive technologies such as Job Access With Speech (JAWS) and devices for colour-blind users was visited. The final session, conducted by NISH’s Psychology Department, provided valuable insights into the field of psychology and related opportunities. Overall, the visit was a great learning experience and gave the students meaningful exposure that will surely benefit their academic journey.
