ADDITIONAL SKILL Acquisition Programme-ASAP

The Higher education department of Kerala in collaboration with the General education department launched the Additional Skills Acquisition Programme-ASAP- in 2012-13 with the intention of providing the students an opportunity to acquire additional skill alongside their usual curricular work. The objective of the programme is to augment the employability of the youth and there by finding a way to mitigate the problem of unemployment in the state.

The training programme consists of two modules; a basic module of 300 hours for soft skill development that focuses on English language and information technology and a skill module of 500 hours for certain specialised skills that can be chosen by the students from a pool of options such as logistics, accounting, construction, hospitality, visual communication etc. They are given hands on training by well trained experts with proven track record from the respective field. They are also given opportunity to have interactions with world class professionals from various arena. The training is imparted before and after regular college time and during Saturdays and holidays without causing any hindrance to their regular studies. At the end of the course  they are issued an internationally accepted skill certificate issued by the National Skill Development Corporation.

ASAP also conducts placements drives and many students have been placed in various reputed national and international firms through this process.

The college has been a recognized ASAP centre from 2013-14 and since then more then 50 students from the college have successfully completed the course. During the year 2017-18, 32 students from the college have enrolled for the programme and the training is to commence during the first week of March 2018.
