Science Movie Review competition
The Department of Physics at MG College hosted a Science Movie Review Competition. This event took place within the Physics Department on 29th February 2024, commencing at 10:00 AM. The competition was designed to inspire students to engage in critical analysis and review of science fiction films, thereby enhancing their analytical skills and fostering a deeper appreciation for this genre. The judging panel for the event comprised Dr. Vaisakhan Thampi and Mr. Sandeep Syam, both from the Physics Department, along with Dr. Ayyappadas from the Malayalam Department. These respected members of the academic staff brought a wealth of expertise to the evaluation process. Participants included Akshay Joshua Jyothish (third-year physics), Utthara A S (first-year physics), Yash PS (first-year physics), and Aravindh M G (first-year physics). These students were charged with the task of watching and reviewing selected science fiction films. After careful consideration of the reviews submitted, Akshay Joshua Jyothish, for his review of "Transcendence", was declared the winner, demonstrating remarkable analytical and writing abilities. Aravindh M G received the runner-up position for his outstanding review of "Bharathan Effect". The awards ceremony was graced by Dr. Beena S, the Principal of MG College, who presented the winners with their prizes and certificates. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Sabarinath H, extending gratitude towards the participants, judges, and organisers for their significant contributions towards making the competition a success. Overall, the Science Movie Review Competition at MG College was an outstanding achievement, offering students a valuable opportunity to interact with the science fiction film genre and exhibit their critical thinking skills. The event also underscored the importance of analytical abilities and an appreciation of cinema within the academic sphere.
