Physics celebrates Astronomy Evening

The Department of Physics conducted an Astronomy evening under the title ‘Sky Connect’ on 16 January 2025.

The programme combined an interactive session on the scale of the universe and a skywatching event. The events were attended by students, teachers, and school students, creating a vibrant atmosphere of scientific curiosity.

The programme commenced at 5:00 PM with an engaging session on the scale of the universe held in the Department of Physics. The discussion explored the vastness of the cosmos, leaving participants fascinated by the unimaginable scales that define our universe.

This was followed by prize distribution of a night sky photography competition, the results of which were announced during the programme. Karthik (Semester 3, BSc Physics) and Sidhardh (Semester 5, BSc Chemistry) won prizes for their sky photographs, which beautifully captured celestial phenomena.

The highlight of the evening began at 6:30 PM, with a skywatching session through an 11-inch Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope equipped with autotracking technology, provided by the Kerala State Science and Technology Museum. Participants had the unique opportunity to observe celestial objects, including Venus, Saturn, Jupiter, and the Orion Nebula. Additionally, the night sky and constellations were introduced, enriching the experience and fostering a deeper understanding of astronomy.
