PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

“ Give me the strength to spread knowledge/ to break the chains of ignorance and strife, for true freedom is not in the absence of chains/ but in the unbounded pursuit and sharing of life. ’’

-Tagore’s The Poet's Prayer

Founded by the visionary, Padmasree Mannathu Padmanabhan and under the auspices of the Nair Service Society, Mahatma Gandhi College has evolved into a prestigious institution affiliated with Kerala University. The college embarked on its journey towards excellence by earning the prestigious designation as a College with Potential for Excellence and through completion of three cycles of accreditation by NAAC, with the fourth cycle of accreditation in progress. Mahatma Gandhi College efficaciously acquired a position among the first 100 colleges in the list of esteemed NIRF rankings of 2018 released by the Ministry of Human Resource Development.

Since its establishment in 1948, Mahatma Gandhi College has maintained a tradition of academic distinction and holistic education, shaping the minds and futures of countless individuals. Continuously serving as a beacon of knowledge and enlightenment, the college empowers students to envision and strive for a brighter future.

Amidst an era of transformative change and boundless possibilities, the college's dedication to innovation and academic excellence remains steadfast. It focuses not only on intellectual growth but also on personal and ethical development, cultivating a nurturing and inclusive community that celebrates diversity. Enhancing academic programmes, expanding research initiatives, and strengthening ties with industry partners and the broader community are ongoing endeavours. Together, these efforts aim to inspire creativity, critical thinking, and empowerment among individuals to make a positive impact on society.

In this phase of transition from the CBCSS to the FYUGP mode, Mahatma Gandhi College has optimized its opportunities by carefully selecting courses from the comprehensive array proposed by the University of Kerala. The FYUGP curriculum is designed to equip students with a comprehensive set of skills and knowledge across various fields, including the arts, humanities, languages, natural sciences, social sciences, and ethics of social engagement. Emphasizing essential soft skills such as complex problem solving, critical thinking, creative thinking, and communication skills, the curriculum offers rigorous specialization in chosen disciplinary or interdisciplinary majors and minors. Scheduled to commence in the 2024-2025 academic year, the implementation of this new scheme reflects the college's commitment to a student-oriented approach, integrating aptitude development with career-oriented skills. This four-year degree programme ensures a holistic educational experience that prepares students for future challenges and opportunities.

Proud of its unique identity and cherished traditions, Mahatma Gandhi College is grateful for the unwavering support and guidance of the NSS management, whose shared vision and collective effort enable the fulfillment of its mission. Let us work together to make this year a remarkable chapter in the illustrious history of our institution.
