Merit Day 2025 celebrated
The Merit Day 2025 at Mahatma Gandhi College, Thiruvananthapuram, was held on 24th March to celebrate and honour the achievements of students and faculty across various fields. As a prestigious institution under the Nair Service Society, the College continues its tradition of academic excellence through events like Merit Day, which serves as both recognition and inspiration.
The event was inaugurated by Sri. M. Sangeeth Kumar, Vice President of the Nair Service Society, with the Chief Guest being Dr. M. R. Sudarsana Kumar, an academic consultant and former Principal of the College. Proceedings began with a prayer and formal welcome, followed by speeches highlighting the importance of recognising merit.
Awards were distributed to students excelling in academics, research, sports, and co-curricular activities. This included seven University rank holders across disciplines such as Sociology, English, Psychology, and Chemistry; nineteen recipients of University Merit Scholarships; and twenty-three department toppers. Nine students qualified for UGC/CSIR NET-JRF, and eleven gained admission to Ph.D. programmes, while nine students were awarded Ph.D. degrees.
In sports, twenty-six students were selected for university or national-level teams, and six won medals. NCC achievements included twelve students participating in national camps, and one NSS student was recognised for state-level participation. Sixteen awards were presented for excellence in research and innovation, including top honours for Dr. Remya Krishnan in the Young Innovators Programme.
The event concluded with felicitations and a vote of thanks, bringing together students, faculty, parents, and alumni in a shared celebration of excellence and commitment to holistic education.
